Sir William Stephenson Library

Within the northern part of the City of Winnipeg, the Sir William Stephenson Library opened in February 1997. After running a ‘name the library’ contest in which two members of the community chose the winning name, the name of this branch was changed from Northwest to the Sir William Stephenson Library, to honor the war hero and master spy who was also known as the ‘man called Intrepid’. To commemorate the name chosen for the branch, this library now houses a Sir William Stephenson maquette, which was generously donated to the library by sculptor Leo Mol. The original larger than life statue stands in Memorial Park in downtown Winnipeg.
